A new interactive app is designed to encourage Victorians to get out and explore their state forests.
Launched last week, the ‘More to Explore’ app features an interactive map that has locations for a range of activities including camping, picnicking, walking, fishing, four-wheel driving, mountain biking and trail bike riding.
The Forest Fire Management Victoria app has been designed to help users navigate when they are out in the bush to find trails and sites that suit their interests.
The app provides real-time information and includes almost 400 camping and picnic sites and more than 240 recreational trails and a search function to aid with planning a trip.
The maps can be downloaded onto mobile phones and used offline with the phone’s GPS function.
Victorian Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio welcomed the release of the app.
‘‘With more than three million hectares of state forest to explore in Victoria, this app will make it quicker and easier for everyone to discover our state’s breathtaking natural beauty,’’ Ms D’Ambrosio said.
■The More to Explore app is available from the Apple app store, with plans to release an Android version this year.
